Sundri Uttamchandani was born on 28 September 1924 in Hyderabad, Sindh, a city renowned for its rich literary, educational, and cultural heritage. Although Hyderabad ceased to be the capital of Sindh under British rule, it remained a vibrant centre of learning, literature, and social reform.
From an early age, Sundri was immersed in the rich oral traditions of Sindhi culture. Her parents and members of their extended joint family shared with her a treasure trove of folk tales, legends, and mythological stories. These formative experiences nurtured her imagination, deepened her love for literature, and laid the foundation for her remarkable journey as one of the most celebrated voices in Sindhi literature
